Secondary title: Pavement Management System
Secondary abstract: All kinds of motorways enable motor vehicles to travel. Pavement structures and pavement surfaces are exposed to various loadings (traffic, climate etc.) which cause deformations and deterioration (changes of condition). Pavement deteriorations effect the driving quality and user costs. Therefore Pavement Management Systems (PMS) are applied. PMS is an activity where the administrator with optimal financial investments maintains an appropriate condition of pavements. The appropriate condition is a condition of pavement, which enables the users safe, comfortable and economical driving. For this purpose the Motorway company in the Republic of Slovenia (DARS d.d.) decided to buy a pavement management system software dTIMS_CT (Deighton Total Infrastructure Management System, Concurrent Transformation). It was chosen by an independent company DDC Consulting & Engineering Ltd, who is developing the expert system named PMS-DARS. On the basis of pavement characteristic data and pavement deterioration models PMS-DARS generates several maintenance strategies for the analysis period (15 years). Each strategy represents particular costs to the administrator and benefits for users. With the optimisation the maintenance strategy is chosen that assures the highest common benefits to the society as a whole. The maintenance plan is elaborated for analysis period for Slovene motorway network. At this point the system is applied only on motorways bur the development strives to comprise the rest road networks in Slovenia.
