Analysis and use of newspaper maps |
Secondary abstract: |
Nowadays the classical way of spreading information with support of newspapers is still one of the most common and popular. Visual and graphic presentations, such as maps and charts, are more and more frequent attendant elements of articles. According to the content these maps are classified as thematic but they vary from other thematic maps (tourist and mountain maps, maps as part of different atlases, ect.) and of course also from maps, which are classified as general geographic. The present work treats newspaper maps as special group of thematic maps. In the first part theoretical principles (such as classification, contents, components of modelling, quality of presentation, ect.) are defined, while the second part includes analysis of newspaper maps from different sources. Analyses base on the use of graphical variables, methods of modelling, map generalisation and description of specialities of individual samples. In the conclusion only the main typical features of all examples are presented. On the basis of this features we can compare newspaper maps with other thematic and general geographic maps. |

Abstract (ePrints): |
