Secondary language: English
Secondary title: Upgrading of cartographical databases for navigational purposes
Secondary abstract: Navigation systems are modern devices, designed on the basis of geographical maps, which beside determining current user position and providing optimal guidance towards set destination also offer various useful information and messages that make travel easier and simpler. The dissertation was written with the aim to present and describe the procedures of designing and maintaining databases for navigational purposes. The dissertation focuses on databases for road navigation systems, however, the procedures concerning other navigation systems are similar as well. The first part deals with cartography, cartographical databases and navigation systems, while the second part focuses on databases for navigational purposes, describing data quality and handling with data obtained from various sources and through field work. Finally, the dissertation mentions a few innovations concerning navigation systems.

Abstract (ePrints): Navigacijski sistemi so sodobne naprave, zasnovane na osnovi geografskih kart, ki poleg prikaza položaja uporabnika v danem trenutku in optimalnega vodenja k zastavljenemu cilju ponujajo še množico uporabnih informacij in sporočil, ki olajšajo in poenostavijo potovanje.
