The comparative analysis of literacy development in England and Slovenia |

In my BA thesis, I analyzed and compared literacy development in the Slovene and English language as first languages in both countries (England and Slovenia).
I tried to discover the main reasons for the big differences in reading literacy among Slovene and English children. I described both educational systems and compared them. I mainly focused on the school documentation, textbooks, curricula etc., which focus on children’s literacy. Then I compared the set standards in Slovene and English national curricula. I also investigated the recent studies in literacy development and evaluated the perspectives of different Slovene and foreign literacy experts who have been doing research in literacy development. My goal was to define developments in this research field. |

V diplomski nalogi sem analizirala in primerjala opismenjevanje v slovenščini oziroma angleščini kot učnima jezikoma v obeh državah (Angliji in Sloveniji).
Poskušala sem ugotoviti, zakaj prihaja do velikih razlik v procesu opismenjevanja med slovenskimi in angleškimi otroki. Opisala sem oba šolska sistema in podala njuno primerjavo. Pri tem sem se osredotočila na dokumentacijo, učbenike, uradne kurikule itn., ki vključujejo opismenjevanje otrok, ter primerjala standarde znanja, v učnih načrtih za slovenščino oziroma angleščino. Zanimalo me je tudi, kakšni so rezultati novejših raziskav s področja opismenjevanja in kakšna so mnenja nekaterih domačih in tujih strokovnjakov, ki raziskujejo opismenjevanje ter tako poskušala ugotoviti, do kakšnih sprememb prihaja na tem področju. |
