Bike transport has numerous advantages. It is nature friendly and has beneficent influence on
psycho-physical condition of an individual. In urban areas it is able to compete with public
transport. On short distance it is even more efficient as a car.
It is important to stimulate not just everyday usage of bicycle, but also recreational and tourist
cycling. The development of which depends on constructing suitable remote-traveling bike
infrastructure. The Slovenian Road Agency (DRSC) has duty to develop such infrastructure.
It has published National strategy for developing bike infrastructure. Strategy contents basic
principles and strategic goals, which should be taken in consideration when planning and
building bike infrastructure.
Slovenia has major potential in planning bike network. It is small country, which offers a lot
of natural and cultural points of interest on relatively small area. To assure optimal course of
bike connections it is crucial for local communities to cooperate. Only they know their area
and their natural and cultural characteristics best. It is logical to use all the existing roads,
forest paths, field dirt roads and other unpaved roads available. This is the quickest, easiest
and cheapest way of restoring infrastructure of a kind.
In search of the best line of bikeway it is also logical to take into consideration the existing
local bike network. The key is to connect local and remote-traveling bike infrastructure.
Further on it is also logical to connect national bike infrastructure to European Cycle Routes
network.
Graduation Thesis therefore treats problems of finding the bikeway line through town
Kočevje suitable for local bike traffic as well as remote-travelling one. |

Abstract (ePrints): |
