Secondary abstract: Stress can be described as a motion triggered by a negative change which interferes with a person’s inner stability, so activating the potential of adaptation. It is an important part of our lives as well as an inevitable consequence in our relation with the ever changing social environment to which we must adapt. An individual’s reaction to these stressors depends on his psychophysical constitution, past experience and the given circumstances. The outgoing character and the way they care for others are the reasons why people choose to work in helping professions. The endurance of professionals depends on their personal qualities as well as on the working environment and general public's relation. There are different strategies of effective stress management: personal strategies, social strategies and preventive strategies. When stress is properly handled an individual’s physical and psychological capabilities come together. Good mental health is conditioned by good physical health and adaptability and vice versa. Doing sports is one of the most efficient and favored personal strategies of stress management.

Abstract (ePrints): Stres je možno opisati kot dogajanje, ki ga sproži vsaka sprememba, ki zmoti človekovo notranje ravnotežje in aktivira njegove prilagoditvene potenciale. Je pomemben del našega življenja. Nastaja kot neizogibna posledica naših odnosov z nenehno spreminjajočim se okoljem, ki se mu moramo prilagajati. Kako se bo posameznik odzval na stresogene dejavnike, je odvisno od njegove psihofizične konstitucije, življenjske zgodovine pa tudi od trenutnega spleta okoliščin. Zaposleni v poklicih pomoči so svojo poklicno izbiro usmerili od sebe navzven, do drugih ljudi, s katerimi vstopajo v odnos in pri tem dajejo sebe. Vzdržljivost delavcev v službah pomoči je odvisna tako od osebnih kvalitet posameznika kot od značilnosti delovnega okolja samega in odnosa širše družbe. Poznamo različne strategije za uspešno obvladovanje stresa: osebne strategije, socialne strategije in strategije preventive. Pri ustreznem obvladovanju stresa se telesne in duševne zmogljivosti posameznika povezujejo. Boljše duševno zdravje je pogojeno z dobrim telesnim zdravjem in zadostno telesno prilagodljivostjo ter obratno. Športna rekreacija je ena najbolj učinkovitih in priljubljenih osebnih strategij pri obvladovanju stresa.
