Secondary title: The strategies of solving mathematical problems in the fourth grade of primary school
Secondary abstract: This diploma paper discusses the strategies used by pupils while solving tasks consisting of mathematical problems. The theoretical part of the paper introduces the basic terms concerning problem tasks as well as the most prevalent classifications of individual tasks. Included in this part is also a number of models and ways of problem solving, and some strategies to improve it further. The empiric part of the paper features the results of the research questions. These were used to establish which solving strategies are most frequently used among the pupils and the pupils’ effectiveness while using them; how effectively they use graphic illustrations while solving mathematical problems; whether pupils are able to use their experience of usefulness of graphical illustrations in similar situations; and finally, whether successfulness at Mathematics influences successfulness at problem solving as such. The research data was gained by means of individual work with ten pupils from the 4th year of primary school who were given problem tasks to solve. The research shows that various strategies were employed by pupils while solving problem tasks. The pupils generally help themselves by using graphical illustrations, however, the majority of them need to be reminded of this option. They can also use their newly gained experience in new situations as well.

Abstract (ePrints): Diplomsko delo obravnava strategije, ki jih učenci uporabljajo pri reševanju matematičnih problemskih nalog.
