Secondary title: Determining boundary traffic volumes of vehicles and pedestrians in out-of-junction pedestrian crossings depending on vehicle delays and queues
Secondary abstract: Out-of-junction pedestrian crossings are regulated with intention to prevent undisciplined street crossings and to reduce the number of conflict situations. In the first part of the thesis legislation and statutes are described, but also the criteria for building out-of-junction pedestrian crossings and characteristics of traffic participators are presented. The thesis was set up to determine boundary traffic volumes of vehicles and pedestrians in order to make a decision on regulating signal-controlled crossings and zebra crossings. Boundary was determined by vehicle delays which had been defined with microscopic program VISSIM 4.10. Criterion of traffic volumes of vehicles and pedestrians is used after all other conditions have been satisfied. It has to be stated that the most important criterion – the pedestrian safety – was not used and cannot be considered in the acquired results. With the simulation program and analyses of non-sign pedestrian crossings, two diagrams were defined. They determine boundary traffic volumes of vehicles and pedestrians for regulating out-of-junction signal- controlled or zebra pedestrian crossings. If a diagram shows that a crossing should be signalized then another diagram, which was defined, must be used. This diagram is based on 95-percentile queue of vehicles at different cycle at out-of junction signalized pedestrian crossings. The results are as follows: upper boundary traffic volumes of vehicles for signalized pedestrian crossings and lower boundary traffic volumes of vehicles for realization of grade-separated junction at different distances of nearby intersections.
