Secondary title: Analyzing a fairy tale in the One thousand and one nights Arabian fairy tales collection in a fourth grade
Secondary abstract: The research presented in this essay was based on the observations of grade four students regarding the story Ali Baba and the 40 Thieves; the original and the translated version. For the purpose of this study the story was translated from Arabic to Slovene. The Arabic version was based on the Muhsin Mahdi manual script. The first part of my study gives an introductory to the Arab culture, and continues with the introduction of the Thousand and One Nights collection, its structure and to whom the collection is intended. Presented is a short history of the collection itself, the first manuscripts and J.A. Galland's translations at the beginning of the 18 century, and later translations into European languages, as well as Slovene. The first manuscripts appeared around 13BC, exact place its unknown. In my research I also define different expressions like: 'translation', 'adaptation' and 'original'. At the end of my research/thesis, there are different opinions and theories of experts (like Arko, Stanovnik, Kos, Kobe, Haddawy etc) in the field of translation. The empirical part of my research introduces the problem, what my goals are, research questions, hypotheses, and the data collection process. The study included 49 students from grade four. By means of a questionnaire/survey it was found that the majority of students prefered the original version rather than its adaptation, furthermore the students would want to get even more familiar with the foreign cultures through stories and literary work.

Abstract (ePrints): Predmet diplomskega dela je bil med osnovnošolci četrtega razreda raziskati priljubljenost priredbe oziroma prevoda izvirnika pravljice Ali Baba in štirideset razbojnikov. V zaključku diplomskega dela so navedena različna mnenja/teorije strokovnjakov (Arko, Jerman, Stanovnik, Kos, Kobe, Haddawy…) s področja prevajanja in prirejanja besedil. Empirični del zajema predstavitev problema, cilje, raziskovalna vprašanja, hipoteze ter postopek zbiranja podatkov. V raziskavo je bilo vključenih 49 učencev 4. razreda. S pomočjo vprašalnika je bilo ugotovljeno, da je večini učencem bolj všeč prevod izvirnika kot pa njegova priredba, ter da si v nadaljnje pri uri književnosti želijo spoznavati tuje kulture preko pravljic oziroma svetovnih knjiženih del.
