Introduction of Halliwick swimming programe for twelve years old girl with mental and physical disability |

Being physically active is extremely important for everyone. It is something that a child begins with immediately after being born, and develops throughout the entire life. Sport as a form of activity usually starts during childhood; individuals who are in any way physically disabled are often deprived of this kind of activity among peers. Swimming is one of the most suitable sports for such people. The Halliwick Concept of swimming was designed to meet the needs of the phisically disabled and those handicapped in any other way.
In my thesis I wanted to illustrate the Halliwick Concept of swimming. It is used as a means of teaching swimming to the physically disabled. Since the individuals in question can be very different, this concept offers an ideal way of individualized teaching swimming.
During my research I followed the progress of adjusting to and moving in water of a 12-year-old girl with both physical and mental disability. I demonstrated practical application of the concept. I used the Swimming With Independent Measurment test (the S.W.I.M. test; it is used to measure the swimming skills in the Halliwick Concept) to better monitor the girl’s progress.
I learned that The Ten Point Programme is very effective. I adjusted the swimming lessons so that they met the girl’s needs and her level of adjustment to water. My charge demonstrated great progress throughout the swimming course, as well as adjusting to water and becoming more independent. Her progress in water also proved to have an effect on her moving outside the pool as well as on her well-being at school and home. |

V diplomskem delu sem želela prikazati Halliwick koncept plavanja.
V raziskavi sem spremljala napredek prilagoditve in gibanja v vodi 12-letne gibalno ovirane deklice z motnjo v duševnem razvoju.
