The diploma thesis contains a description and review of vector maps for the territory of
Slovenia and their use in navigation and vehicle tracking systems.
In the diploma thesis, fundamental notions important for the understanding of the navigation
and vehicle tracking systems (GPS, GPRS, cartography, vector database, file format) are
presented. The central topics of the thesis are the vector maps and their database. Vector maps
available in Slovenia are described along with their characteristics such as: to what extent
they cover Slovenia geographically, the coverage of Slovenia in terms of data, map quality
evaluation and accessibility on the market. In continuation, a comparison of two random map
sections is given, namely area of town Cerkno and a section of Ljubljana. Vector maps of the
providers who are most present on the Slovenian market were chosen (Monolit, TeleAtlas,
Navteq, Navigo sistem (CRO), GoogleMaps and LiveSearch).
The fundamental finding of the diploma thesis is that vector maps of Slovenia are very good
and useful in vehicle navigation and tracking. Maps may be used by undemanding as well as
demanding users such as transport companies. |
