Secondary title: Musical competence of preschool teachers
Secondary abstract: My diploma deals with musical competencies of preschool teachers. Music education includes many different activities: singing various songs, playing different instruments, listening to music, being creative while listening to music and creating the music itself. It is of utmost importance that kindergarten teachers are capable of mediating music to the children and are able to incorporate it into the every day of their kindergarten activities. Music helps calm children down, it relaxes them, helps them express joy and gives them a feeling of safety. Not only that, but it also plays a very important role in the further development of a child – their motor skills as well as an aesthetical sense. The research done in my diploma was focused on how and in what manner preschool teachers carry out musical activities, how children respond to them and on seeing if preschool teachers might come across any difficulties, while they plan these musical activities, select means and a methodical process. Also, I was trying to establish whether preschool teachers might have problems with defining goals of this music education, developmental characteristics of children, selecting the suitable musical aids, the lack of musical knowledge or they do not have any problems with planning after all. The diploma consists of a theoretical and an empirical part. In the theoretical part, I described the musical-developmental characteristics of children and musical activities. I have also established the notion of competency and the competency of preschool teachers more precisely. In the empirical part, I focused on a research which included the cooperation of 93 preschool teachers who work at kindergartens across Slovenia. The research showed that preschool teachers frequently incorporate musical activities in their lessons and that the children like them, even when the majority of these preschool teachers prefer to incorporate artistic and formative activities. Nevertheless, they stumble upon many difficulties (those which I have already mentioned) just the same. Many preschool teachers claim the Kindergarten Curriculum, as a fundamental kindergarten document, gives a crucial datum of offering enough opportunities to plan musical activities for their lessons.

Abstract (ePrints): Diplomska naloga govori o glasbenih kompetencah vzgojiteljic.
