Siblings in family with child with autism spectrum disorder |
Secondary abstract: |
The very term "family with special needs" refers to a family, whose situation is specific, different and special. Within this family, the family members face with the family’s own common specialty. Usually it is this specialty which stands out the most and is the most talked about. Each member of the group takes this specialty and lives with it in his own way.
In the field of autism spectrum disorder most of its attention has focused on a disorder, but less on the way how does society experience it. This thesis has focused on siblings of a child with autistic spectrum disorder.
The theoretical part presents the theoretical knowledge dealing with family, families with special needs and autism spectrum disorders. The research work is based on analysis of the responses of five siblings of a child with autistic spectrum disorder.
Using qualitative methodology, I conducted interviews with children, through which I learned how they experience their siblings with autistic spectrum disorder and realized the position these children have in the family. Purpose of the project is therefore to describe the position of siblings in the family with a child with autistic spectrum disorder. I focused on the relationships between siblings, parents and the environment and their role in the family.
The way children cope with their siblings disorder depends on the personality of the child, family relationships and the environment. When facing with the disorder, siblings experience both negative and positive emotions. In the family sibling can take some responsibility in relation to the assistance and protection of the child with autistic spectrum disorder. Siblings’ wishes for the future are often indirectly related to their siblings with autistic spectrum disorder. Siblings do not express the desire for support self-help groups, but rather think of training workshops on autism spectrum disorders. Based on the perceived needs, I have, in this diploma work, formed a proposal of guidelines for the work of social pedagogue dealing with siblings of children with autism spectrum disorder. |

Abstract (ePrints): |
V teoretičnem delu so predstavljena teoretska izhodišča s področij družine, družin s posebnimi potrebami in motenj avtističnega spektra.
