Experiments with radioactive source |
Secondary abstract: |
In this diploma thesis the most interesting and instructive experiments have been collected using radioactive sources, which intended for lecturing students and teachers. The diploma thesis begins with topics about radioactive nuclei (structure of nucleus, types of decays, how radioactivity is measured, radiation dose and its effects on human body). The experimental part presents the measurements and calculated absorption coefficients for the isotope Strontium 90. In the first part I examine how the number of decays and time periods between two decays are distributed. I examined correlation between the sequence of time periods between two consecutive decays. In the following I checked up if the number of beta particles decreases exponentially. I also calculated the absorption coefficients for Aluminium and air. The thesis concludes by presenting instructions for two experimental exercises. My measurements and my analyses related to the exercises are also displayed. In the second exercise the absorption coefficient for iron is also calculated. |

Abstract (ePrints): |
