Beverages intake among preschool children |

In the thesis we dealt with the consumption of beverages among preschool children. The purpose was to research the children's habits related to beverage consumption, especially sugar-sweetened beverages. The theoretical part presents the development factors that affect the eating habits of children. It also presents various factors of environment and the composition as well as the quality of different kinds of beverages.
We conducted a qualitative study involving in-depth interviews. We individually interviewed 8 children aged from 3 to 4, and 8 children aged 5. By coding and analyzing the collected data we established that children prefer to enjoy sweet drinks. They are particularly interested in beverages in attractive packaging involving various colours and images of fruit or cartoon heroes. The results suggest that older children are more aware of healthy and less healthy drinks; they are also able to explain that drinks with added sugar are less healthy because of the sugar content. In their view, drinks containing juice or fruit are healthy. Preschool children rarely drink carbonated beverages because of the bubbles in it.
Acquainting of children, parents, and teachers in educational institutions would contribute to the development of better drinking habits among preschool children, which would also be reflected in later in their life. At the same time, it would contribute to the awareness of the conservation of health. In addition, it is necessary to avoid rewarding children with food and ensure a supportive environment in which children can develop healthy habits associated with drinking beverages. |

Abstract (ePrints): |
Izvedli smo kvalitativno raziskavo s poglobljenim intervjujem.
