Groups of older people for self-help and quality aging |
Secondary abstract: |
The graduation thesis entitled Groups of older people for self-help and quality aging comprises a theoretical and an empirical part. The whole paper focuses on the population of the elderly and quality of ageing. Despite a significant number of the elderly population, the society is still not sufficiently prepared for changes. Non–material needs of older people and help in meeting these needs are standing out.
The theoretical part presents the concept of ageing and old age, as well as the programmes that are designed for the elderly. Preparations for the quality ageing and quality ageing programmes are described. A large part is devoted to the importance and activities of groups of older people for self-help.
In the empirical work, I carried out a qualitative study. The interviews portray lives of seven interviewed women and their views on ageing. All of them report positive effects of integration into groups of older people for self-help. They also agree that quality old-age requires effort and also willingness to accept help. |

Abstract (ePrints): |
