Secondary abstract:	In this graduation thesis I am dealing with the problem of restoration and closure of landfills. Landfills are representing a burden to the enviroment and at the same time also danger becacause of emissions to the enviroment (landfill gases, leachate, dust, odour). Landfill closure must be considered allready at the beginning of planning a new landfill. In this graduation thesis I have focused on the works that need to be done after refuse is no longer discarded. Landfill surface needs to be restored and brought back to a state of beneficial use over a period of time, harmful emissions must be prevented and refuse must be able to decompose so in time landfill will no longer present a threat to the enviroment. In detail this problem is presented on the example of landfill Velenje. Slovenian legislation on this matter is arranged in Ordinance about disposal of waste in landfills (Ur.l. RS 32/06), which is based on European community Waste Landfill Directive-1999/31/EC.
