Development process of collecting and recycling wasted graveyard candles |
Secondary abstract: |
Slovenia is one of the countries in which we use most graveyard candles. Every year we light 23 million candles and thus create 4.000 tons of waste. Until recently, we have dumped wasted candles in a municipal waste landfill along with other waste. The majority of the candles are made of polyvinyl chloride (PVC), which is dangerous to the environment due to the release of chlorine and organic substances. The Decree of management with wasted graveyard candles entered into force in Slovenia on January 1st 2010. In my thesis I analyzed the execution of Decree: the organizational and material streams and the whole process of recycling wasted candles in Slovenia. The current technology complies with the requirements of Decree. Difficulties arise in the bringing of secondary raw materials to the market, since all recycled products are not of sufficient quality. For more successful use of recycled products it is proposed to improve the processing technology, or a ban on the use of environmentally harmful PVC candles. It is also proposed to use candles made out of recycled plastic or the use of recycled plastic in incinerators. The two most important goals are: as first to raise public awareness about the proper waste disposal and as second to stop the unnecessary over-consumption of candles in Slovenia. |

Abstract (ePrints): |
V diplomski nalogi sem analizirala delovanje Uredbe v praksi: organizacijske in materialne tokove ter potek predelave odpadnih nagrobnih sveč v Sloveniji. Trenutna tehnologija ustreza zahtevam Uredbe. |
