Secondary title: Analytical and experimental studies of seismic response of an existing viaduct
Secondary abstract: The purpose of this thesis was to determine the difference between tipical viaduct designed in accordance with EC8/2 and existing viaduct which is supported with I shaped pillars. That is why we designed the existing viaduct considering all demands made by EC8/2. The comparison showed that the longitudinal reinforcement between the designed and the existing viaduct is very similar. Bigger differences are preseneted in the transverse reinforcement. The amount of the transverse reinforcement is more than twice smaller than the amount, demanded by EC8/2. In addition, some details of the transverse reinforcement are unsuitable. Cyclic experimental research, that was made in cooperation with Slovenian National Building and Civil Engineering Institute, showed that the transverse reinforcement, which was used in pillars of existing viaduct, is not able to prevent the buckling of the longitudinal reinforcement bars. The response of the viaduct, designed in accordance with EC8/2, was estimated with approximative nonlinear static analysis named N2 method.
