Measurements of water repellency and infiltration of the soil |
Secondary abstract: |
Soil water repellency is a reduction in the rate of wetting caused by the presence of hydrophobic coatings on soil particles. The occurrence of the absorption of water from the surface of the ground in its interior is called infiltration. Water resistance and infiltration are dependent on a number of influences.
All measurements were done on three different soil types at each at the ground level and in the trench. Water repellency measurements were performed by two methods, namely with water drop penetration time test (WDPT) and with mini disk infiltrometer (MDI). While performing WDPT we measured time that takes a drop of water to be absorbed into the ground, but with MDI we measured the volume of water which infiltrated in 60 s at suction -1 cm. We had also done measurements of infiltration with MDI and then we determined the ratio of soil hydraulic conductivity for each soil type. This ratio is an important parameter of
permeability of the soil.
On the basis of the measurement results, we found out that the water repellency and infiltration change with depth. On all soil types has been observed less infiltration and increased water repellency in the trench than at ground level. We found a strong correlation between the WDPT and MDI measurements of water repellency and a good correlation
between the measurements of water repellency and infiltration. Confirm the regularity of our measurements, we find in the literature, as well as other researchers obtained results comparable to our own. |

Abstract (ePrints): |
Vodoodbojnost je zmanjšanje stopnje močenja tal, zaradi prisotnosti hidrofobnih delcev v tleh. Pojav vpijanja vode s površine tal v njeno notranjost imenujemo infiltracija. Meritve vodoodbojnosti smo opravili z dvema metodama, in sicer s testom vpijanja vodne kapljice v tla (WDPT) ter z mini disk infiltrometrom (MDI).
