Secondary title: Solar exposure analysis of buildings in a regular pattern and its parametric equation
Secondary abstract: The thesis conducted a solar exposure study of buildings in a regular pattern which can be represented by a sequence of houses, residential blocks or skyscrapers that are build collinearly within a given spacing. A parametric study was done for the central building in the pattern and the importance of the following parameters was considered: length, width and height of the buildings, the spacing in between buildings and the rotation of the whole building pattern. The calculation was performed for 270 cases which differed in one of the parameters. The isolation potential and the solar exposure was computed using the Shading II tool according to the requirements from TSG4 [6]. The so obtained results were used for the analysis of the importance the parameters which, although having data for 21.3., 21.6. and 21.12., was done for the March case only. The analysis pointed out a series of previously known facts and, additionally, some less intuitive findings which were explained. Furthermore, was the obtained data the basis to develop a mathematical expression which can be used to calculate the solar exposure in a faster way. The expression contains 8 to 16 coefficients which values were determined using the Solver tool from Excel. It was shown that the deviation of the values obtained with the expression justify its use in the initial phases of the building design process when detailed shapes of buildings are not defined jet while in the later phases of the building design more accurate methods are appropriate.
