Secondary title: Map viewer design and web mapping
Secondary abstract: This dissertation focuses on map viewers and the maps as a part of map viewer's design. Special attention was paid to the limitations affecting both seniors and colour-vision-impaired users. The first, general analysis focuses on providing basic information of the selected map viewers and web maps subjects of further analyses. The second analysis is of the visibility and perception of a web map’s/map viewer’s elements and map viewer’s manipulation, the emphasis is on the visual perception of function buttons and on the map field content based on the map’s legend. The analysis identifies the relevance of the map viewer’s address and location of its function buttons as a source of basic information, which is essential for a new map viewer’s users. The use of symbols on function buttons as well as the selection of symbol colours for content presentation in the map field and on the legend is important as it also helps determine the speed of visual content perception. The limitations affecting seniors and colour-vision-impaired users, in addition to the colours used, also include text sizes used in map viewers. Individual elements/categories of printed maps, the areas of which were used in the determination of the two coverage indices, can be identified in a map viewer in addition to their relationship as one of the eligibility of a map viewer’s design criteria. Histograms were used for analysing the map viewer’s content and the relevant contrast and brightness of different elements. Based on the map viewer’s image, the form of the composite RGB histogram, as well as the histograms for red, green and blue channels, and luminosity histogram were also analysed. The map field content is presented with symbols whose design adequacy was verified using examples of point, line and area symbols.

Abstract (ePrints): Doktorska disertacija obravnava oblikovanje spletnih pregledovalnikov in kart v spletnih pregledovalnikih.
