Secondary title: | Pressure of school work and after school activities on children and families in Slovenia |
Secondary abstract: | In the last few decades Slovene education system became a target of various critics saying that primary school students are under too much pressure or under incorrect pressure. The critics are mainly parents and the media reminding us of how serious the problem is. This thesis focuses on establishing actual pressures for the students and it compares the amount of schoolwork in Slovene schools with schools abroad. It explains the use of word »pressure«, the types of it and questions if primary school students really are under too much pressure or are they just being used as a medium to point out other parts of society fighting the same issue. It discovers that the sense of being under pressure can be caused by wider society and it probably doesn't come from students alone. Feeling under pressure is generally connected also with the changes in our society and family structure; mainly women which are split between new and traditional role. A research between students in three different age groups and their parents is trying to assess the theoretical assumptions and it focuses on pressures students and parents are under when students are involved with afterschool activities. How much free time they are left with and what they choose to do with that time. |
