The diploma thesis focuses on how to make the architecture more accessible through aesthetic education. The concept of aesthetic education is briefly described and divided into methods; additionally, tasks and goals for its realization are defined.
I have chosen this topic because I think that in preschool time not enough attention is paid to the objects that surround us as they are taken for granted. In my opinion, we are not aware enough of how strongly space and architecture influence our lives, as they teach children with the help of aesthetic education how to observe, experience and evaluate the aesthetics.
I have focused on the architectural works of our greatest architect Jože Plečnik, since they attracted my attention because of the aesthetic appearance. Maybe one of the reasons is that I am very fond of ancient architecture, the features of which are often found in the works of Plečnik. In addition, I reckon that the right thing to do is to introduce the children to Plečnik as a "giant" in the field of architecture in Slovenia, especially in Ljubljana. I introduced the work of Plečnik to the children; however, the emphasis was not on all his buildings found in Ljubljana but only on three bridges, namely Triple Bridge (Tromostovje), Cobblers' Bridge and Trnovo Bridge.
I have chosen these bridges because all three are in the centre of Ljubljana and fairly close to each other, because each of them is something special and very different, although they include similar elements.
The aim of the diploma thesis was to bring an aesthetic point of view of architecture closer to children, introduce it to them, direct their attention more often to it, and give them a basis on which they can build on later in life. If I successfully introduce the architecture and its aesthetic aspect to at least one child and it affects his aesthetic aspect and relationship to architecture in the future, I reach the goal. |
