Abstract

ǂThe ǂland proprerty of Kosezi in Teharje in the Early Modern age |
Secondary abstract: |
The Kosezi community is a unique part of the social structure in the Late Medieval and Early Modern periods in the Slovene area of settlement. Peasants by status, they differ from their common counterparts in enjoying certain privileges and liberties, acquired when Carantanian dukes were still being inaugurated. Their community in Teharje near Celje, also including individual members from the Savinja Valley, is still unexplored to this day. Beside the preserved judicial book of their community in Teharje from the eighteenth century with records from the nineteenth century as well, two more preserved sources, stored by the Historical archive in Celje, hold prominence. These are the two land registers (Urbarium) from 1576 and 1753. The first is a typical reformed land register, listing the lands, rights and obligations of the Kosezi community, while the second is a rectified Theresian land register, where their estates are already labelled with numbers. Both land registers are transliterated in my thesis and reveal important information on the economic and social status of the Kosezi community and its members. In the two aforementioned sources, the individual members of their community are listed along with their estates. The tributes they paid both in coin and goods are presented in tables for purposes of clarity and comprehension. Photographs of the two land registers, and relevant information on other sources and literature are enclosed with my thesis. |
