Photosynthesis is considered one of the most difficult subjects for pupils. It is very complex topic, which is very difficult to understand. The goal of our research was to examine the knowledge on photosynthesis of the pupils of the primary school, their attitude towrds it, and whether there were any misconceptions about photosynthesis. The research was conducted on a sample of 120 pupils in Dolenjske Toplice primary school. The questionnaire consisted of 19 questions. In the first part of the questionnaire we examined students knowledge of photosynthesis and the second part we examined attitude towards photosynthesis. In the first part, the questions were mostly multiple choice, one was open-ended. In the second part, students are assessed by the Likert-type scale their agreement with the given arguments. Most students believe that photosynthesis is important for life on Earth and the knowledge about photosynthesis is part of general knowledge. The results showed the general knowledge on photosynthesis and respiration, which was partially factual. We also discovered some misconceptions related to the misunderstanding of the function of photosynthesis and the process of photosynthesis. Most students know that plants themselves produce all the food, but do not know what their food are. We have also found that some of the pupils do not know that plants convert solar energy into chemical. It was also shown that part of the pupils does not know when and where cellular respiration takes place and what is itself a connection between him and photosynthesis. |
