Abstract

Secondary title: Suitability analysis of a multi-image method for 3D model reconstruction in cultural heritage domain
Secondary abstract: The graduation thesis evaluates the suitability of multi-image 3D reconstruction method and its applicability in the cultural heritage domain. Case study of two objects from the area of modern Greece is carried out. The optimal work ow for data acquisition and its processing in commercial software PhotoScan is determined. 3D meshes are described with visual, geometrical and topological characteristics. The data produced with laser scanning is the ground truth for geometrical evaluations. Data evaluation results show the suitability of multi-image 3D reconstruction method for visualisation, simple measurements and for production of simple plans. In comparison with laser scanning the proposed method is cheaper and faster while produces geometrically and visually comparable results. Misreconstructed curvatures are detected on produced 3D meshes which are therefore not suitable for precise surface modelling and for deformation analysis. The results suggest the use of precalibrated camera.
