diplomsko delo
Abstract

ǂA ǂcomparison of teaching methods for consecutive interpretation in English and German on the basis of note-talking techniques |
Secondary abstract: |
The thesis summarizes the history and development of interpretation and presents modes of interpreting with a focus on consecutive interpreting. It highlights the role of memory in the process of interpretation and note-taking in consecutive interpreting. The central part comprises a detailed analysis of eight students, a comparison of errors and note-taking between the two programs - Translation and interpretation English and German as well as final conclusions and issues that were observed in the students. Our hypothesis was that notes between English and German students would differ, because participating students were taught different note-taking techniques. The aim of our research was to analyze and compare these different methods and establish whether different approaches to teaching note-taking technique for consecutive interpreting had an effect on the quality of interpretation. For the purpose of our study, a short article was selected that students had to interpret consecutively from foreign language into their mother tongue. Our research took place in the language laboratory at the Faculty of Arts, University of Maribor. Our study showed that students used different note-taking techniques. Students demonstrated that the "it-is-up-to-every-individual" approach, ie. that each interpreter develops his or her own most efficient technique, is successful in practice. So there are no correct or incorrect approaches to note-taking. Interpreters develop individual techniques that improve over time. The results of our research confirmed that different approaches to note-taking for consecutive interpreters do not have an effect on the quality of interpretation. |
