Abstract

Secondary title: Numerical analysis of hybrid connecting rod
Secondary abstract: An increasing number of products are made from polymer composites, which in turn increases the need for numerical analysis of these. The products from polymer composites have orthotropic mechanical properties, which have been often overlooked or simplified in the past, resulting in poor results of numerical analyses. This graduation thesis presents the meaning of orthotropic mechanical characteristics and orientation of reinforcing fibers in mechanical analyses on an actual study case of a hybrid connection rod. It follows the course of numerical analyses with or without taking into account the orthotropic characteristics and orientation, while the results are compared with experimental tests. The thesis also studies the influence of technological factors on the results of mechanical analyses, and the options for their optimization.
