Abstract

Secondary title: The newborn and neonatal mother in domestic environment
Secondary abstract: Health education, the basic task of a nurse in the home care service, accompanies a person from beginning until end, through all stages of his/her life. Each of these life stages has specific needs for knowledge and a graduate community nurse has to follow and conform to the needs of an individual, family and community. One of the vulnerable groups, which a nurse in the home care service is dealing with are the newborn infant and puerpera. The young family without experience is in desperate need of help and also expresses this need for help from specialized personnel – in our case a nurse in the home care service. The aim of this thesis is to introduce the activities of a community nurse, which are orientated at preserving and invigorating the health of the puerpera and her newborn child. The purpose of my research, which is based on a case study - the qualitative method, is to set nursing diagnoses and determine the nursing problems that come up at the puerpera and her infant and at the same time present the activities of home care services, performed by a community nurse at his/her house visit of the puerpera and her newborn. Based on the case study we have discovered that the puerpera has two main nursing problems, which are tiredness and pain in the perineum, caused by an episiotomy wound. At the newborn, the two primary nursing problems are improper functioning of the intestine – colic and navel healing. The aim of every treatment of the puerpera, her newborn child and also other members of the family, from the viewpoint of home nursing, is a healthy psychophysical development of the infant and the adaptation of the father and mother to their new parenting role.
