Abstract

Jeklarska industrija danes predstavlja glavno gonilo svetovnega gospodarstva.

Secondary title: IDENTIFICATION OF INCLUSIONS OCCURRENCE LOCATION DURING STEELMAKING WITH EDS ANALYSIS
Secondary abstract: In today's world steel industry is one of the main forces that run global economy. The production of steel is increasing every year. Steel products and intermediate products are used in many different industries, such as construction industry, automotive industry, healthcare, and others. Costumers seek for the most high quality steel available. That's why it's very important that steel products don't contain non-metallic inclusions, don't have surface defects, that the steel is not porous and that it has appropriate chemical composition. Non-metallic inclusions can affect steel's mechanical features. This is the reason why steel manufactures are trying their best to improve their technological process in a way that would decrease or even eliminate non-metallic inclusions on the steel's surface. At determining the chemical composition of non-metallic steel inclusions, different manufacturers use different methods. One of the possible methods is Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), which enables one to analyze surface of different materials. For analyzing a sample, one uses energy dispersive X-ray spectrum (EDS) that is created while radiating the sample. The purpose of this thesis was to determine the use value of EDS analysis for detecting chemical composition of inclusions, and to develop a system for determination of the place where those inclusions appear.
