Secondary title: | Mathematical model of arachidonic acid metabolism for calculation of concentration ratios between eicosanoids in case of aspirin intolerance |
Secondary abstract: | In the graduate seminar we discuss the occurrence of aspirin-induced asthma using a mathematical model of arachidonic acid metabolism. We upgrade the existing model and based on the differences in the expressions of the enzymes prostaglandin E synthase (PGES) and leukotriene C4 synthase (LTC4S) we identify aspirin intolerant and tolerant asthmatics as well as nonasthmatics. The model predicts the highest risk of bronchoconstriction in the population in which the expression of enzyme LTC4S is increased and expression of PGES is decreased. The model results are in good agreement with the measured concentration ratios between particular eicosanoids, obtained from two different experimental studies. |
