Abstract

Secondary abstract: The thesis entitled The influence of English on Slovene fashion related web texts shows considerable presence of English in fashion blogs, forums and web-portals. Those texts are also called new media texts. The author of such texts expresses current flow of thoughts, without any emphasis on being correct or coherent as in traditionally written texts, what characterizes them as more speech-like. New media text is also a fusion of genres; the core is to visually attract as many readers as possible, who are given a significant role by encouraging them to equally participate. The main focus of the thesis is to analyse the collected material of fashion-related web texts from linguistic and socio-cultural views. Interlinquistic contacts, which emerged as a consequence of insufficiency of Slovene language in some areas, interfered mostly in lexis. The influence of English is seen in borrowings, their adaptation and code-switching. Authors have a strong opinion that Anglicisms sound more sophisticated; in general, English is more preferred than Slovene because of its global dimensions. In syntax, the influence of English is seen in changed word order, which resembles English. In orthography users and authors are mostly playing with language, they are given a free will to be creative. The effort to make Slovene words sound like English is noticeable, but seems totally unnecessary.
