Abstract

Metodologija raziskovanja: Za izvedbo raziskave smo uporabili kvantitativno metodologijo. Podatke smo zbrali s pomočjo anonimne ankete. Vprašalnik je vseboval 11 vprašanj zaprtega tipa. V raziskavo je bilo vključenih 50 patronažnih medicinskih sester. Rezultate raziskave smo grafično ponazorili s programom Excel 2010.

Secondary title: Health care of elderly person with diabetes in home environment
Secondary abstract: Nowadays, the number of people with diabetes is increasing dramatically and presents a serious problem in today's society. Diabetes is a disorder of the metabolism of carbohydrates, fats and proteins. Biochemical signs of diabetes are chronic hyperglycemia, which is an absolute or relative lack of the hormone insulin and the state of constantly elevated blood glucose levels. In the thesis, we have presented the role of community nurses in the treatment of elderly people with diabetes. We have defined the basic concepts of diabetes, to determine how the elderly are familiar with diabetes, we have described the task of a community nurse in dealing with elderly with diabetes, have presented the importance of health education for elderly people who suffer from diabetes and also the importance of communication with the elderly at home. Research Methodology: To carry out the research we used a quantitative methodology. Data were collected through an anonymous survey. The questionnaire included 11 closed questions. The study included 50 community nurses. The survey results are graphically illustrated in Excel 2010. Results: The minor research has shown that older people with diabetes are not sufficiently informed about the treatment of diabetes, about the proper diet and that they lack awareness of the importance of physical activity. In the field, community nurses treat more than half of patients who are being treated with medication (drugs), and a third of patients who are treated with insulin. To teach patients (insulin application) community nurses spend more than 6 home visits for which they stress the importance of communication and health education for which they have enough time. Conclusion: Community nurses play a very important role in the treatment of elderly people with diabetes at home. They teach the elder how to self-administer insulin and take care that they are educated about diabetes. They determine how the elderly eat and how much they are physically active and help them with health education to regulate the diabetes.
