Abstract

Secondary title: Education of patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease about inhalation therapy
Secondary abstract: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is irreversible and obstructive ventilatory disorder. COPD is most commonly caused by long term smoking or exposure to environmental injurious agents leading to gradual pulmonary function decrease. Patients’ knowledge about the nature and the course of disease is of great importance. The main task of health care staff is COPD patients’ education about nature, treatment and complications of disease. Research methods: The interview was used to obtain answers to research questions. The COPD patients and nurses who educate those patients were interviewed in Primary care Health center Šentjur and Hospital Topolšica. The results were presented in tables or graphs. Results: The research results show good patients’ knowledge about inhalation therapy in both institutions, however incomplete in some issues. Conclusion: We think that more attention should be paid to education of correct and effective application of inhalation therapy because it leads to good therapy effect and consequently better patients quality of life.
