Abstract

V diplomski nalogi smo ob pregledu literature in dostopnih statističnih podatkih predstavili splošna spoznanja o umoru ter trende kaznivih dejanj umora v Evropi. V naslednjih poglavjih smo predstavili zgodovinski trend umora ter povezanosti umora z različnimi dejavniki. V drugem delu, empiričnem delu, so tabelarno in grafično prikazani sekundarni statistični podatki o kaznivih dejanjih umora za izbrane države Evrope. V zadnjem delu diplomske naloge smo pozornost namenili nekaterim značilnostim sodobnih družb in poskušali ugotoviti njihovo povezanost s kaznivimi dejanji umora. Te značilnosti so: bruto družbeni produkt – paritete kupne moči, dohodkovna neenakost in brezposelnost. Podatke smo pridobili na spletnih straneh Eurostata in spletne publikacije Human Development Report. Upoštevali smo podatke o značilnostih evropskih družb za leto 2007.

Secondary abstract: In thesis we presented general findings on homicide and trends of criminal offences of homicides in Europe during examination of literature and available statistical data. We verified two basic hypotheses which are: are criminal offences of homicides on the rise in Europe and is there a connection between criminal offences of homicides and some characteristics of contemporary European societies. In the theoretical part of thesis we focused on the problem of different legal definitions of homicide and on different theoretical approaches. In the next chapters we presented the historical trend of homicide and the connection of homicide to other factors. In the second part (empirical part) we present indexes and graphical presentations of secondary statistical data on the criminal offences of homicides in selected European countries. For clarity Europe is divided in several groups of countries. The data was collected from the website of European Sourcebook of Crime and Criminal Justice Statistics. We focused on the period between 2003 and 2007. Besides the calculated extent of criminal offences of homicides, we also predicted the number of criminal offences of homicides per 100.000 residents for 2008 in individual groups of contries. In the last part of thesis we paid attention on some characteristics of modern societies and tried to connect them to the criminal offences of homicides. The characteristics we focused on are: gross domestic product at purchasing power parity per capita, income inequality and unemployment. We obtain the data from the website of Eurostat and internet publication of Human Development Report. We took into account the data on characteristics of contemporary European societies for 2007.
