Abstract

Secondary title: REPEATING PATTERNS IN THE PRESCHOOL PERIOD
Secondary abstract: The thesis entitled Repeating patterns in the preschool period consists of the theoretical and the empirical part. The goal of this thesis was to study the mathematical abilities of repeating patterns in the preschool period. We further aimed to evaluate the impact of children's age on solving the tasks with repeating patterns. In the theoretical part we presented the algebra first, then the patterns. The correlation of patterns to the other areas of curriculum in the kindergarten, was also illustrated. In addition some of the sources and materials for activities with repeating patterns were listed. Several activities are described in detail and the classification of patterns is also explained. In the empirical part with help of pedagogical experiment we have verified efficiency of activities in the area of repeated patterns, than we have investigated and interpreted the results obtained from the initial and final testing. The empirical part included results received from twenty-three children at age of four and five years. We discovered that children solved tasks with repeating patterns more successfully in the final testing, when compared to the initial testing, with the older children (at the age of five years) being more successful. Acquired stimulating results can be directly related to mathematical activities that were conducted between both tests.
