Abstract

Secondary title: Use of public passenger transport in the area of Kozjansko
Secondary abstract: Although the number of vehicles on Slovenian as well as on European roads is increasing, the usage of public transport is decreasing. Nowadays, people prefer to use their own means of transport to their jobs, schools, hobbies and so on. However, these decisions bring many negative consequences, for example, everyday traffic jams in big city centers which have negative effects both on infrastructure and citizens. Furthermore, they increase government costs and burden the environment. Due to the large amount of cars and cargo vehicles, the amount of exhaust fumes of harmfull greenhouse gases is increasing, as well as the number of traffic accidents with not only material damage, but also human casualties. In addition to these facts, there are also negative effects on people's health, many people get sick or even die due to the harmfull influence of greenhouse gases. In our research we presented the issue of traffic and its negative consequences. We tried to determine whether people use public transport for transportation to their working place and schools or do they prefer their own means of transport. The target area of our research is the area of Kozjansko and the target group are people who commute to Celje on everyday basis. Based on our research analysis, we presented findings and our proposals on how to increase the usage of public transport and add extra value to the service.
