Abstract

Secondary title: DEVELOPMENT POSSIBILITIES OF ORGANIC AGRICULTURE IN REPUBLIC OF SLOVENIA
Secondary abstract: Protecting the environment and consequently, production of healthy food should be the first priority of every farmer. However, the intended protection and working in harmony with nature has become exploitation and warfare against nature, in exchange for more money. In doing so, we have all forgotten, farmers and consumers, what kind of food we eat, if not healthy? Nowadays it is difficult to understand all the negative consequences intensive agriculture still leaves behind. Though in the last decade, as an alternative, organic farming, has been applied more and more, staying more in tune with nature and making food safer, tastier and especially healthier. The purpose of this thesis is to present the current situation of agriculture in Slovenia, in particular, shed light on the field of organic farming. In the theoretical part we analysed the current situation of agriculture in Slovenia, the degree of self-sufficiency, how it is organized and what financial support is received. Below, we examined organic farming with all its characteristics, the legislation, and what the steps are for switching from intensive (conventional) and integrated farming to organic farming. As part of the presentation and analysis of the problem we found that the demand exceeds the ecological supply in Slovenia, and the produce and products need to be imported. Based on this model, we prepared solutions from the personnel, organizational, technical and financial point of view delivering a solution that would enable intensive (conventional) and integrated farmers to opt for organic farming faster and easier. In conclusion we confirmed the hypothesis, from which it is evident that it would be possible for market needs of organic produce and products to be adequately filled by the immediate diversion of agriculture to organic farming.
