Abstract
Metodologija raziskovanja: V raziskavi smo uporabili kvantitativno metodologijo.

Educating perioperative registered nurses |
Secondary abstract: |
Perioperative registered nurses (PRNs) are specialised in the area of perioperative nursing care. They must demonstrate both theoretical and practical knowledge in order to ensure quality, professional and safe nursing care in the perioperative period. In Slovenia, PRNs mainly acquire their knowledge from older colleagues at work, which conflicts with European guidelines and recommendations. As a result, the competence and qualification of Slovenian PRNs is questionable, as is the quality and safety of nursing care.
Purpose: The purpose of the master’s thesis is to point to the need for the introduction of formal education for PRNs in Slovenia.
Research methodology: The research was conducted using a quantitative methodology. Data was collected through a survey questionnaire containing both open and closed questions and a Likert-type scale. The research involved 120 PRNs from five Slovenian medical institutions.
Results: In the majority of Slovenian medical institutions, PRNs are not educated according to a structured program. Their mentors believe the conditions are poor. In their opinion, the most important skills and competence that should be part of the education of PRNs are infection prevention and control and the use of the aseptic techniques in the operative environment. A total of 98% of the respondents support the introduction of formal education for PRNs in Slovenia.
Conclusion: Slovenian PRNs require formal education in line with European guidelines to impart them with professional knowledge and competence in their area of work and provide the patients with quality and safe nursing care. |
