Abstract

Secondary title: THE EFFECTS OF SWIMMING ON ACQUISITION OF CHILDREN'S MOTOR SKILLS
Secondary abstract: The thesis titled The effects of swimming on acquisition of children's motor skills deals with the impact of swimming on the process of learning children's motor skills. The theoretical part introduces swimming, its positive effects, the importance of swimming from different points of view and different techniques of swimming. Motor abilities, skills and their importance for total body development are highlighted as well. The empirical part of the thesis consists of a pedagogical experiment carried out with a certain sample of a certain part of population. Our sampling frame were fifty five-year-old children. Children from experimental group were present at swimming lessons while children from control group were not. Motor skills tests were used as a measuring instrument. Test results were processed by means of descriptive statistics. T-test for independent samples was used to analyse and define the difference between experimental and control group and to evaluate set hypotheses. Research results have shown that children from experimental group progressed better and more than children from control group regarding motor skills. In conclusion, swimming lessons contribute to improving children's motor skills.
