Abstract

Secondary title: ORGANIZATION AND IMPLEMENTATION OF A SWIMMING SCHOOL IN THE FIRST TRIENNIUM
Secondary abstract: The aim of the diploma paper was to find out how primary schools cope with the organization and implementation of swimming courses in the first triennium, and how the teaching of swimming could be improved and the potential difficulties eliminated. The paper consists of a theoretical and a practical part. In the first part the goals and content of swimming lessons from the curriculum for physical education were presented, and in the second part the way primary schools organize and realise swimming courses in the first 3-year cycle was introduced. Some obstacles and difficulties which primary schools encounter, and possible solutions were presented here as well. An empirical survey was conducted on the sample of 75 primary school head teachers or their deputies. To collect data a questionnaire was used. The results showed that the majority of primary schools have their swimming courses well organised and realised. Some schools, however, encounter problems, connected with funding and being too far away from pools. In the research it was established that the swimming course costs are usually distributed between parents and the Ministry of Education, Science and Sports, or between the same Ministry and individual community. In spite of that, there is a small percentage of primary school which did not get any funding from the Ministry. The fact that more than half of primary schools have a pool at the distance of more than 10 kilometres also became apparent. Therefore, I believe that the Ministry should provide primary schools with more resources to cover the costs of organization and implementation of swimming courses. Apart from that, it should also provide them with adequate pool and other facilities needed for swimming courses.
