(magistrsko delo)
Abstract
Metodologija raziskovanja

Safe blood transfuzion by contractors from order to application. |
Secondary abstract: |
In the masters work we wanted to present the importance of safety in the blood transfusion chain, from the order to the application by those who administer it and to determine the knowledge of and compliance with the prescribed standards that are currently in use in the University Medical Centre Maribor (UKC MB). Enhanced blood security can be guaranteed if we are familiar with blood related risks. The purpose of the research is to present the role of the health care (HC) and its providers-graduate nurse/graduate health care provider and other participants, who with their work, knowledge and expertise contribute to the safe blood transfusion and blood products.
Research methodology
The research was based on the quantitative methodology. The data was gathered with the help of an individually manufactured questionnaire. The study involved 100 members of a nursing team who deal with ordering and application of blood and blood products. Poll results were processed with the help of Microsoft Office Word 2010, and Microsoft Office Excel 2010.
Research results
Data analysis showed that 94 % of respondents handled blood products carefully and safely. It is also satisfactory that 79 % of respondents always follow the instructions and guidelines with regard to blood transfusion. In addition, the results of the survey showed that a majority of respondents were aware of the responsibility involved in performing tasks connected with blood transfusion. On the other hand it is worrying that 71 % of respondents felt that at the time of schooling they did not gain sufficient knowledge in the field of blood transfusions, and claim to have a lack of expertise of this area in spite of the obligations that are imposed on them.
Conclusion: Health care takes on an important and responsible role in the field of blood supply. Therefore the existing staff needs to be trained professionally and has to be given the possibility to develop all the necessary skills for the work it performs. This way improvements throughout the blood transfusion chain can be implemented and thus increase the safety of the entire transfusion process. |
