Abstract

Žilni katetri so v današnji medicini nujno potrebni. Žilne katetre delimo na periferne venske katetre, centralne venske katetre, dializne katetre, centralne venske katetre s podkožnim prekatom in arterijske katetre.

Secondary title: Intravascular catheters
Secondary abstract: Intravascular catheters are indispensable part of modern treatment. We can divide vascular catheters into peripheral venous catheters, central venous catheters, dialysis catheters, central venous catheters with subcutaneous chamber and arterial catheters. Infection of vascular catheters can be fatal in the critically ill and often prolongs duration of hospitalization. High-quality nursing is important in prevention of vascular catheter infections. A nurse should monitor the patency of the catheter and catheter fixation, observe the puncture site, inform the attending physician and document on any changes observed and acton taken.. In present thesis we describe the types of vascular catheters, the most common complications related to vascular catheters, we present the latest guidelines regarding the prevention of vascular catheter related infections, describe currently used materials and describe the tasks of the nurse regarding vascular catheters. A review of domestic and foreign literature and electronic resources was performed to answer to the thesis. We conclude that high-quality nursing and modern materials reduce the incidence of vascular access related infections.
