Abstract

Secondary title: Stroke as a consequence of diabetes
Secondary abstract: Stroke is still one of the serious problems of modern medicine due to the large number of people with diseases of the Cerebral blood vessels as well as the socio-economic consequences of stroke, affecting the family and society as a whole. Diabetes is a strong risk factor for the emergence and development of stroke. Complications of diabetes, including stroke, are considered as an important cause of morbidity and premature death. The purpose of this diploma thesis was to establish whether the surveyed population was aware of the risk factors affecting the occurrence of stroke as well as to collect information on the people's awareness that diabetes is a major risk factor for the development of stroke. The study was based on a quantitative methodology using a structured survey questionnaire. Through research we found that the interviewed population was familiar with the risk factors affecting the occurrence of stroke. They were aware of the fact that diabetes is a major risk factor for the emergence of stroke. In order to prevent stroke in patients with diabetes it is essential for them to have a good understanding of the risk factors, to eliminate them from everyday life and to get an appropriate treatment of certain diseases. Nurses play an important role in informing people about risk factors for the occurrence of stroke and measures to reduce their impact.
