Abstract

Secondary abstract: Abroad, graphology and graphology analysis appears as assistance in almost all areas of human activity in employment, in personality profiling, in the choice of profession, in identifying poison-pen writers and so on. On the contrary, in Slovenia it has begun to emerge intensively only in recent years. In this paper we give some suggestions on how a graphology analysis could be helpful to detectives. One of the proposals is establishing cooperation between graphologists and detectives in investigating anonymous documents. Graphologists already cooperate with detectives, but these cases are very few. They assume a role of manuscript investigators engaged in identification of signature or font, rather with a view to identifying human personality traits. Therefore, we propose that a graphologist performs a graphology analysis from an anonymous letter with focus primarily on recorded personal characteristics; on the basis of this analysis, a consultation on the author of the anonymous letter between a detective and a recipient thereof would be easier. It is known that writers of anonymous letters are in general acquaintances or the close ones of the recipient thereof. We highlight another proposal, namely, detectives could provide assistance to Slovenian companies to verify the candidates applying for a job opening. This information could be related to lifestyle and the style of a candidate, previous employment, abuses of the right to be absent from work due to illness or injury, and the like. Since the Private Detective Act contains no provision stipulating detectives are authorised to examine candidates for the job, we propose supplementing or amending this Act in this way. Opinions and suggestions on the beneficial role of graphology analysis in detective activities are expressed by a graphology expert, a forensic manuscripts investigator and a detective.
