Abstract

Secondary title: Consumer behaviour patterns and household borrowing in European Union with an emphasis on Slovenia
Secondary abstract: The purpose of this diploma thesis is to present and compare the consumption and indebtedness of households in the countries of the European Union before and during the economic crisis. Households, their importance for national economies and the theoretical background of consumption are defined in the thesis. This is followed by the analytical part where measurements of macroeconomic activities such as economic growth, unemployment and inflation are presented. The analysis of household mortgage loans focuses mainly on interest rates. The analysis of consumption and household borrowing is based on data from the Statistical Office of the Republic of Slovenia, which is acquired from household budget surveys (SBH) and surveys on income and living conditions (EU-SILC), Eurostat, Bank of Slovenia reports and reports of the Institute of Macroeconomic Analysis and Development. The analyses mainly cover the period from 2000 to 2012.
