Abstract

Secondary title: Interrelationship between relationship satisfaction, conflict resolution styles and object relations
Secondary abstract: The purpose of the Master's thesis was to determine whether different conflict resolution styles impact the relationship satisfaction and whether there are any gender differences in conflict resolution styles; another purpose was to determine how the object relations impact the relationship satisfaction and conflict resolution styles and whether there is a link between the duration of the relationship and the relationship satisfaction. The Relationship Assessment Scale, Romantic Partner Conflict Scale and Objective Relations Test (TOO-48) were used in the empirical research. The research included 238 participants. It was established that the only constructive conflict resolution style was a compromise, while all other styles were negatively associated with satisfaction or were not associated with satisfaction at all. There is also a negative correlation between the dimensions of object relations and satisfaction in a relationship; the comparison of groups according to the level of object relations revealed that the group of people with a higher level of object relations reported lower level of relationship satisfaction. Some differences regarding the frequency of use of certain conflict resolution styles according to the level of object relations have also been noticed. This in particular refers to dependence and self-absorption. Finally, it should be mentioned that certain conflict resolution styles appear as a perfect or a partial mediator between the object relations and satisfaction.
