Abstract

Secondary title: A TEACHER'S ROLE IN CONSULTATION WITH PARENTS, REGARDING THE INTEGRATION OF A CHILD IN A NURSERY SCHOOL
Secondary abstract: Starting nursery school is an important milestone in a child's life, as the child expands his/hers social circle to a larger group of peers. In addition, the role of guardians is no longer limited to the parents, but is extended to include the teachers and other educational staff in the nursery school. Children experience the start of nursery school in different ways, depending on the parents% attitude toward this event and how they present it to the children. Starting nursery school often represents a major psychological and emotional challenge not only for children but also their parents, who are faced with a number of questions about how will their child get along with his/hers peers and teachers, how will he/she cope with the attachment, and to what extent will starting nursery school constitute a stressful experience for the child. Because of that, it is all the more important that parents, prior to the start of nursery school, go to a quality consultation with a teacher, who presents all aspects of the problem connected with the start of nursery school, as well as the optimal way of confronting this event, so the children and their parents can experience the start of nursery school as a positive life experience. In the theoretical section we have presented the operation of counselling services in nursery schools, while focusing on the role of the teacher during the consultation with the parents about the process of child integration in nursery schools. In the empirical section we have researched the field of work of Slovenian nursery school teachers. We focused on researching the role of teachers during the integration of children in nursery schools and during the cooperation with parents. We obtained an insight into the actual problems, which occur during the work of teachers, and proposals, which could be used to improve the situation and work experiences of nursery school teachers.
