diplomsko delo
Abstract

Secondary abstract: |
The following study paper discusses the development of Slovene book illustration, evolution and work of Založba Obzorja publishing house and work of its main contributors which had helped in its development. It also discusses their illustrations which have appeared in books published by Založba Obzorja. Illustration in books has a function of encouraging readers to participate and it helps them to upgrade the content on their own. It brings additional information and it activates readers in a way they are able to empathize with the situation. Through illustration reader becomes more involved with the text itself. Illustration in a way prevents the reader from being fully rational, objective and distant. At the most it allows the usage of reader's imagination and participation as co-operator. Založba Obzorja publishing house is a unique phenomenon. Despite its modest start (established 1950) it has evolved from a small publishing house to one of the top valued publishing houses in Slovenia. Bookstores and stationery shops across the country had put it on a publishing map, a status it retained until liquidation in year 2003. With its publishing activity it has directly supported development of book illustration and development of books in general. Publishing house achieved its peak in times of directors Jože Košar (1908-1982) and Janez Vidic (1923-1996) who worked as technical editor, illustrator and book designer. Ive Šubic (1922-1989) and Milan Bizovičar (1927-2006) should also be recognised because of their quality work and contribution made to Založba Obzorja publishing house. |
